Ruth Howard

I am a local Hobart natural therapist who tailors individual stress and pain management programs to locals and visitors seeking therapeutic healing from chronic and acute health conditions and/or relaxation.  I also offer work wellness solutions for small business in Hobart, Moonah, Glenorchy. 

I opened my clinic for everyone looking to heal and feel good, creating wellbeing experiences centered on love, integrity, acceptance & self efficacy to really heal. A former aged care nurse, award winning chef and food science educator, I have taught healthy cooking and nutrition classes for primary,  high school students and mature adults. A massage therapist since 1984 and a shiatsu therapist, macrobiotic nutritionist and yoga therapist since 1992, I have always put culinary medicine and body work high on the map. I am also a qualified Fitness Instructor. 


My own healing journey to recover from gut illness, food sensitivities and 2 life threatening illnesses allowed me to understand the therapeutic benefits of shiatsu,  massage, kinesiology, movement & nutrition. 


Here are some concepts that we will explore during our work together:

Holistic Nutrition:

I emphasize the importance of local produce, where possible, seeds, nuts, beans, vegetables, meats, fish, healthy dairy, whole grains, high-quality proteins, cold pressed oils, seaweeds and water. I’ll work with the foods you like to cook and eat, any food cravings and introduce you to some of those foods that build and repair whilst, temporarily eliminating any inflammatory or disharmonious foods and teach you how to find what’s healthiest for your unique body! Cravings play a critical role in understanding what your body needs and shouldn’t be ignored. When you learn how to deconstruct your cravings and understand what they’re really telling you, you will be able to reclaim a sense of balance and harmony.

Therapeutic Touch:

Return your body's homeostasis, through therapeutic touch, using massage techniques, acupressure, kinesiology & gentle stretches to rebalance the body, create a state of health. Your body then heals itself! 

Corrective Exercise:

The stretches and exercises I recommend are based upon functional meridian yoga therapy and strength and conditioning training. You work within YOUR limits and practice at home the balances, exercises, postures that assist your recovery depending upon your presenting symptoms.
