The symptoms of Irritable Bowel (IBS/SIBO), Crohn's disease, Ulcerative Colitis, Celiac Disease, Diverticulitis, Cystic Fibrosis, Chronic Diarrhea can be similar to the above. These symptoms and illnesses can be linked to worse illness like Chronic Fatigue and Cystic Fibrosis, if you're uncertain of your diagnosis, please see your medical practitioner?
Once identified and diagnosed it will be necessary to adjust your diet to clear not only the symptoms but also the causes.
IBS may be linked to small intestinal bacterial overgrowth (SIBO), a condition where abnormally large numbers of bacteria are present in the small intestine. These types of bacteria can have a similarity to those more commonly found in the colon and are considered to establish an imbalance in the gut. It is also thought that many carbohydrates (sugars) cannot be successfully broken down and absorbed within the small intestine. As a result, these sugars are rapidly fermented by bacteria in the bowel which draws in fluid and produces gas, pain and bloating.
2 Diets to support these symptoms gut are the Low FODMAP and the Specific Carbohydrate Diet.
The Low FODMAPs diet starts in the name:
Fermentable Oliogosaccharides Disaccharides Monosaccharides And Polyols. For many reasons, these carbohydrates are easily fermented and can cause swelling of the gut, resulting in digestive pain, fatigue and more. Part of the problem of suffering from gut illness is if we dont have the enzymes to absorb these carbohydrates then we suffer malabsorption. In the case of SIBO or Coeliac disease the intestine has been damaged and enzymes will be decreased, resulting in inefficient transportation and therefore malabsorption of fructose ( fruit sugar) or even lactose.
Please see Allowed Food List in Detail Here.
The Specific Carbohydrate Diet™ is designed to alleviate and heal gut illness. The allowed foods are mainly those that men and woman ate before agriculture began. The diet we evolved to eat over millions of years which was predominantly meat, fish, eggs, vegetables, nuts, low-sugar fruits. Our modern diet however, now includes starches, grains, pasta, legumes, and breads and has only been consumed for about 10,000 years.
The Specific Carbohydrate Diet™ has been clinically tested for over 50 years by Dr Haas and biochemist Elaine Gottschall, approximately 75% of sufferers who have tried this approach, have found relief with this diet plan.
